Over the past 35 years, I’ve had the privilege to witness, contribute to and, in my current role as President and CEO, lead the ways in which HumRRO has grown and evolved to meet the unique needs of our clients, all while continuing to contribute to science and our profession. While much has changed over that time—and will continue to change at an accelerated pace—the one constant throughout has been our ability to attract and engage the best talent who work collaboratively with one another and with our clients to provide responsive, innovative, and impactful solutions.

We learned a lot about our organization and ourselves as we collectively adapted to the challenges that were a byproduct of a once-in-a-century pandemic. Our entire workforce pivoted and created new ways to meet our internal and external clients’ needs, many of which also changed on a dime. It gives me enormous pride to report that we not only met their needs but also enhanced our capabilities and grew and diversified our client base in the process.

Through it all, HumRRO remains an employer of choice, which I attribute to our commitment to serving our clients coupled with our collegial and collaborative work environment. I understand that it is imperative to continue to evolve as the workforce itself shifts priorities. In response to these new perspectives, we expanded our hybrid work policy, added benefits, such as a 12-week paid parental leave policy and paid Juneteenth holiday, and sponsored company activities promoting connectedness among our geographically dispersed employees. We are so fortunate that our mission-focused organization attracts “high achievers,” many of whom hold master’s and doctoral degrees, and are the top of their respective fields, and because as a nonprofit, we give them the freedom to focus on quality over profits.

As we celebrate our successes, we also are anticipating strategic growth in the future. We will continue to evolve and change in ways that allow us to be more responsive to clients and to have an even greater impact.

Our 2021-2022 Biennial Report showcases how we have dedicated ourselves to our core mission. I am excited to share our capabilities and highlights of the work our talented staff accomplished as well as how they contributed to society, science, and the profession. I also applaud our initiatives to give back to the broader community.
