Buckland is particularly interested in assessment issues related to students with disabilities. He has worked on alignment studies of alternate assessments, studied and written about testing accommodation policies, and led accessibility reviews. Much of this work has been informed by his own experience as a special education teacher instructing and assessing students in the classroom.
Buckland has authored or co-authored more than 40 technical reports and has presented at several national conferences. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Research Methodology from the University of Pittsburgh and Master of Teaching in Special Education from the University of Virginia.
