Dr. Gavan O'Shea receives Outstanding Alumni Award

Dr. Gavan O’Shea  received the College of Science Outstanding Recent Alumni  Award from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). The award is granted annually to a person who graduated in the past 10 years. Gavan was nominated by the Department of Psychology. He earned his PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2002.

Command and control, situational awareness, target acquisition and identification, and improved system lethality have been affected and influenced by the new-found power of the microprocessor. U.S. Army Brigade Staff Training for Small Groups

With production of the Combined Arms Operations at Brigade Level, Realistically Achieved Through Simulation(COBRAS) Brigade Staff Exercise (see U.S. Army Brigade Staff Training), members of brigade combat teams are now able to practice their staff processes in a scenario-based, highly realistic simulation environment. The training covers all aspects of selected operations, including planning and preparation as well as execution and follow-on activities.

When U.S. Army National Guard units began using their Virtual Training Program at the Mounted Warfare Simulation Training Center in Fort Knox, Kentucky, word got out to active component units that a structured, simulation-based approach to training could give them the power to train more with less.
