Validity Investigation for Education and the Workplace Program (VIEW)
HumRRO's VIEW Program performs a wide variety of validity investigations designed to meet our clients' specific needs.
We regularly perform the following kinds of studies:
- Accuracy Verification
including scoring accuracy and reliability investigations and quality assurance studies of psychometric processing (parameter estimation, scaling, equating, and production of scoring tables). VIEW independently replicates testing companies' procedures as a safeguard against errors. - Item Quality Studies
including studies related to the alignment of test items to content standards, adherence to Universal Design principles, bias review, basic item quality (quality of distracters, readability of prompts or passages, etc.), and differential functioning of items for subgroups of test-takers. - External Validity Investigations
including correlation studies relating one assessment with another, linking assessment scores with other variables (such as grades, college admittance, job success, etc.), and linking assessment scores with curricular and instructional variables. - Test Bias or Differential Impact Studies
including estimations of achievement gaps among various tested groups, estimations of gap closure or widening, investigations of the existence and magnitude of differential impact. - Consequential Validity Studies
these studies investigate the intended and unintended consequences of implementing an assessment (and accountability) system. Topics investigated in the past include instructional practices, curriculum, professional development, school culture and climate, uses of test score data, and remediation programs. - Alternate Assessment Studies
similar studies to those listed above, but targeted specifically toward alternate assessments. - Special Studies
VIEW designs studies to respond to our clients' specific validity concerns. The validity information required by the client depends on the nature and uses of the assessment in question. Our expertise and experience allow us to respond to unanticipated validity questions in reasoned and innovative ways.
