Advanced Distributed Training Program (ADTP)
The Advanced Distributed Training Program conducts applied research and devises innovative solutions for training individuals, small groups, and organizations. We begin with the assumption that training may be only a part of the expressed need, proceeding to a comprehensive performance analysis to determine the nature of the need.
If training is a viable part of the answer, then our design process includes job analysis and cognitive task analysis, as appropriate, to identify those aspects of performance that are suitable for training. We consider various aspects of the target audience, environment, and resources to devise a training approach that addresses the identified needs and is coordinated with other elements of the solution.
The design process matches characteristics of the tasks, learners, setting, and resources to principles of cognitive processing, learning strategies, delivery methods, and long-term performance sustainment. The result may involve one-on-one coaching, classroom presentations, individualized web-based or CD-based training, small group exercises, or even a program of organizational training components. We explore a range of face-to-face and distributed methods to select the right combination to suit the situation at hand. Working closely with stakeholders, we create a detailed design plan that is inherently flexible to allow for incorporation of late-coming good ideas.
When we are directly involved in implementation of training, our role is twofold: to ensure learners achieve the training objectives and to ensure that the training program is refined for delivery to the client. Our goal is not to become the trainers, but rather to construct training products that the client can use as needed with minimal maintenance assistance. We offer a range of training and performance support services, including train-the-trainer, training support packages, help desk, and electronic performance support systems, as well as periodic checkups to ensure content currency.
A thorough evaluation of the training, in the context of other aspects of the identified solution, is critical. We look at all aspects of the program to determine its viability or need for improvement: user acceptance, value in achieving performance objectives, impact on job performance and organizational needs, and benefit in relation to cost.
