Association of Legal Administrators

The mission of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) is to

  1. improve the quality of management in legal services organizations,
  2. promote and enhance the competence and professionalism of legal administrators and all members of the management team, and
  3. represent professional legal management and managers to the legal community and to the public at large.

In the mid-1990's, ALA embarked on a multi-phased plan to design, develop, and implement a competency-based certification program and educational programs to support the professional development of its membership.

HumRRO worked with ALA to develop a foundation for its competency-based education and certification initiatives. First, we collected job analysis and needs analysis information. Based on these results, HumRRO made recommendations about the appropriate next steps regarding professional development and certification.

HumRRO and ALA worked closely together to design, develop, implement, and maintain a high quality certification program. ALA also restructured its annual conferences to track with the major competency categories covered by the certification process and encouraged its regional conference planners to do the same. ALA uses every opportunity to promote the use of the job analysis-based competencies as a means of ensuring that educational programs at the national, regional, and local levels meet the needs of their members.
