Providing Technical and Managerial Support for the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) Certification Program
In 2005, the Association for Training and Development Certification Institute (ASTD CI) initiated a certification program called the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance. The certification has two components: a multiple-choice knowledge exam and a work-product portfolio containing evidence of competence in each of several areas of expertise (AOE). The knowledge exam is administered four times per year. Portfolios are submitted and scored twice per year.
HumRRO performs the following tasks for the multiple-choice knowledge exam:
- maintains the items in HumRRO's item banking software,
- evaluates the current items,
- trains subject matter experts to write test items,
- creates two alternate forms of the test for each test administration,
- sets the passing score for each test form,
- computes item statistics,
- creates candidate feedback reports, and
- reports summary statistics for each test administration.
With regard to the work-product portfolios, HumRRO conducts facilitated scoring meetings in which subject matter experts evaluate the portfolios according to pre-defined standards. HumRRO handles most of the administrative tasks related to receiving and processing the portfolios and trains subject matter experts in how to score the portfolios. After each scoring meeting, HumRRO calculates the final scores for all candidates and compute relevant statistics. Because the certification program is in its early stages, HumRRO will also conduct focus groups with subject matter experts to identify ways improve current procedures and materials for scoring the work-product portfolios.
